Living Proof was released in 1979 on Fantasy Records. The album, first issued as a double-disc set, featured three sides of live material captured at San Francisco’s War Memorial Opera House. The captivating live concert included dancefloor favorites like “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real),” “Body Strong” and “Dance (Disco Heat),” plus various covers such as Sylvester’s take on Patti LaBelle’s “You Are My Friend,” The Beatles’ “Blackbird,” and jazz standard “Lover Man” (previously made famous by Billie Holiday).

The fourth side of the album included three new studio recordings. The material from the Living Proof album topped disco charts, with the singles “Can’t Stop Dancing” and “In My Fantasy (I Want You, I Need You)” both peaking at No.2 on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart. Living Proof peaked at No.45 on the R&B Albums chart and reached No.123 on the Billboard 200.
